Releasing the butterfly ACEO 16/01/2013 and others / et autres choses

Hello there,

a bit later then usual today but in France wednesday is no school day, which means, in my case, all 3 children at home ;-)

I'd like to introduce you my today's aceo for the project that is dedicated to a twitter friend and an awesome artist Sandra Lock (she also in my favourite link here on the blog).
I met Sandra on twitter a couple of months ago, don't remember who was between us to get in touch first, it doesn't matter. She's really nice, she gave me exposure in her blog which I still thank her for, and she does a really interesting work with digital art.
Also Sandra is affected unfortunatly with fibromyalgia which is a neurological condition that can be really painfull and invalidating , so when she "disappear " it means that she's not well enough...which it's a bad news.
Even if this aceo is "too green" for her ;-) (and this is between us) I keep my initial idea to dedicated this to you that are beautiful for you to keep flying!

If you wanna met Sandra on twitter search for@sand625

********************************************************************************

The girl with the rose, a web friendship ACEO for the project 02/01/2013

I "met" Ginny Lei on the internet last year, she contacted me on fineartamerica (where we both sell prints) for a big project that should happens in summer 2013 and which I hope I'll be able to be part of and tell here about it.
She posted on FB a really lovely photo of hers few days ago, and this inspired me for the today's aceo.
She's a lovely girl, an artist with a lot of initiative as well, she organise exhibitions and really she doesn't have a lack of energy.
If you want see her artworks and join her et a tour on Ginny Lei website here
The today's aceo is "The girl with the Rose"
Enjoy!

*****************************************************************************

L'aceo d'aujourd'hui c'est donc "The girl with the rose"  (La fille avec la rose")
A bien tôt!

16/12/2012 The 365 ACEOs project / Projet : 365 jours avec un ACEO

Hello there!

Today I give you what somebody called a "Tree of life".
I started in 2012 to paint some new topics such as flowers and trees so I couldn't miss this in my 365 ACEOs project. Trees have just a so big, powerfull and endless meaning that makes me impossible not to feel the urge to paint them.
This one is the first but won't be the last! In fact is the "Four season Tree of life : Autumn" , I'll let you guess which one will be the next shortly ;-)
You can find this ACEO and others trees on my etsy shop, meanwhile enjoy these warm, fantastic colors I think autumn is my favourite season because all these reds, yellows and so on...

*******************************************************************************

Hello!

Introducing my painting "Woman of sword"

Hi there!

I'd like the idea to tell you a bit more about my paintings and the story behind them.
This one is called "Woman of swords" but the real title is in italian "Donna di spade".

Woman of sword - Donna di spade cm 50x61

I painted this in june 2008 when i was leaving in wonderful Copenhagen (or København, Denmark)

At that time I liked  to paint in a sort of monochromatic way. I choosed blue for this one because it kind of reminded me about the sword's blade.
Now, this artwork has a double story with him.

First :
the "Woman of sword" is born as part of a collection of four paintings inspired to the italian playing cards from Naple.
There are four suits : swords (spade), cups( coppe), money (denari/coins), bastoni (clubs).
In the original card she doesn't look so warrior but then it cames artistic interpretation, I liked to paint her like a combative woman (of cours not all combatives women need a real sword ;-))

Second :
This  painting was lost for few months in 2010 because a fake exhibition supposedly hold in Senegal (At the time I did a FB page about it but this shame cheating "festival" is still on the web, artists watch out!).
It was back with others 3 paintings after almost 5 months.
In the end I was really lucky but  during the period it was lost I felt really bad.Now I'm much more carefull!

What this painting inspire to you? You're welcome to leave a comment!

Saving money and the environment in oil painting

Hi there, just wanted to write this down today.

I love oil colors, have been using this for a long time but I discovered just few years ago that you can actually save turpentine and use the same stock for quite a while before throw it away.

Turpentine is a diluent and also cleans brushes when you work with oil colors in painting.
You cannot really avoid it, even if in the last few years a lot of similar product have been on the market , odorless maybe but not less toxic and quite often really expansive!

Don't get me wrong, at some point you need to take a trip to a special trash collection point to get rid of this but still...

Simply you take few glass recipient with you.
When you finish your work session and cleaned your stuff you leave the turpentine alone.
Few hours later you'll see that the liquid on the top is clear and the sediment are down in the bottom.
Then you SLOWLY pass the clear liquid in a new recipient and leave in the first one just the sediment.
You can use the liquid that you collect in the second recipient like a new one.

You can keep a special glass recipient with a lid just to stock the turpentine until you'll bring it to the trash collector.

I hope it helps,
Gioia
